Rudolf Nureyev (1-6) is a composition of archive portraits. The images, appropriated from early 1960s footage, are sequenced to progressively rotate the dancer’s face from right to left. The portraits are printed on a small scale surrounded by negative space to mimic the broadcasting medium where they first appeared. The work is the second piece dedicated to the artist Rudolf Nureyev, prompted by the fascination towards the artist as a queer icon of the XX century.
Originally produced as a box of prints for Paris Ass Book Fair (Lafayette Anticipation) in 2022, the work was reconfigured as an installation for the exhibition After-Hours: People Who Works Here, at David Zwirner, 519 & 525 W 19th St, NY, June 20-July 19, 2024.
